Origin Story
As kids, our parents taught us an invaluable lesson:
Life is truly about
selfless service to others.
Our father demonstrated this by example when he co-founded ASC (Athletes Serving the Community). This innovative, award-winning nonprofit united student athletes in service across Greater Boston.
SB Hustlers
Upon moving to Santa Barbara, we wanted to follow in Dad’s footsteps. Starting with his concept, we leveraged decades of experience playing and coaching team sports, while injecting our own innate zest for disruption and innovation.
Thus, SB Hustlers was born — a playful, powerful, team-based approach to community service. Our “Big Idea”, and hope, was that by uniting volunteers across our community, we could turn life into a game we could all play together.
In 2014, we launched at the local Earth Day Festival with a flip chart, clipboard, and Coors Light tent (sadly, no beer). Over a weekend, we turned strangers into teammates. All in all, more than 100 people joined our movement. Our community service team was ready to play together!
Now what?
In the Field
Our first volunteer event was the SB Food Bank’s “Fork and Cork” gala, raising money and awareness for local kids programs. Exactly one person joined us! We set up chairs, greeted guests, and preached food security issues as if we were part of the Food Bank Team ourselves. We had a blast!
The Word about Hustlers soon spread all over town. We quickly found ourselves at the center of community service, supporting causes from youth education, environmental activism, girls empowerment, human rights, the arts, mental health, and higher consciousness.
With an inclusive environment and playful spirit, we recruited hundreds of caring citizens to serve thousands of hours, raising millions of dollars for worthy causes across Santa Barbara.
We invested the next decade designing, field-testing and cultivating a unique, duplicatable model of community service.
Now, with the Serve platform, we will be spreading goodwill worldwide starting in 2025!
